A Writer's Journal

This journal invites you on a writing journey. It will lead you on an adventure down different writing paths of inspiration, where you will sharpen your storytelling skills and explore ten different genres like fantasy, sci-fi, dystopian and more.

Part 1: Inspiration is where you gather your tools for this journey: ideas. Use Part 1 to generate a list of potential stories so you’re prepared when adventure calls and the need to write strikes.

Part 2: Storytelling is the true journey where you may get lost in your own story worlds a few times, where you will hopefully encounter creative struggles you must defeat, and where you will conquer each obstacle to emerge heroic.

Part 3: Genres & Short Stories is the final quest to the treasure, where you use all you learned to slay the dragon or outsmart the villain. The story (or stories) you have at the end of this part is your treasure. Cue the celebration dance!

Reading great books is essential for writing great stories. You are encouraged to read your favorite stories and authors as guides (mentors) and companions on your writing adventure. Also, consider inviting friends to join you on this journey. Share your stories or even co-write a story together.

Sean's Survival Guide

Surviving seventh grade is like playing a FPS video game-one wrong move and it's game over. After working hard to be invisible in middle school, a humble straight-A student and star soccer player  bravely accepts his friend’s challenge: he goes to the school dance. The risk is so worth it.

Problems quickly follow with his new girlfriend and the most popular girl in school clash over everything. Can a shy, formerly invisible seventh grade boy balance holding hands with his girlfriend, playing Xbox nightly with his friends, spending time with his forever crush, and hanging out with the most popular kids in school? Or will he screw up and be left with no friends at all?

Kayla's Quest

Surviving seventh grade requires fearless determination and shatterproof friendships

I must be the only seventh-grade girl excited to return to school after the long winter break, but it’s only because my amazing boyfriend makes school better than Disneyland. I can’t wait to walk through the halls holding hands and smiling like it’s the best day ever. And it’s going to be the best day ever, all year long. I have a lot of exciting ideas to help my boyfriend, my best friends, and my school.

But one stupid text shatters my perfect bliss, where everything good turns ugly. Shattered by the betrayal, I lose my cool and commit the unforgettable. Within an hour of my meltdown, I transform from the unnamed best friend to the most talked about girl in school.

It’s time for some serious damage control. Lucky for me, my big sister is a high school cheerleader and a master manipulator of all things school related. With her help, I will survive seventh grade.

Surviving Seventh Grade: Day 1

Meet Kayla. She's excited to be back in school because going an entire month without seeing Sean was painful. No, he's not her boyfriend-yet. They became friends at surf camp over the summer and she's convinced seventh grade will be great with Sean as her soon-to-be-boyfriend. But before school even starts she's minus one best friend. What does seventh grade have in store for her?

Meet Sean. He's not exactly thrilled to be back in school. He'd much rather be at the beach surfing or at soccer practice or gaming with his friends. But at least he has a few classes with friends. And science winds up being the best class because not only is his best friend and his only friend whose a girl in that class, but so is the beautiful and popular Courtney Crenshaw. What luck!

This is a 45-page novella leading into both books in the Surviving Seventh Grade series, available for subscribers to Heather's newsletter.
